Kramal Food Truck Thai Me Up Kra 2 in Makawao has been temporarily closed by the State Department of Health due to a cockroach infestation.
During routine inspections on December 22nd, DOH inspectors observed approximately 25 roaches in “various life stages” throughout the food truck. This includes shelves above service windows, under fryers, inside to-go bins, and on floors. According to a news release issued today.
As a result, the food facility received a red placard on December 22nd, ordering it to remain closed until all violations have been resolved and the health department allows mobile units to reopen.
Other violations include numerous droppings on the wipes on the shelf above the service window. A buildup of grease and food debris found throughout the unit that acts as a food source for cockroaches. A mobile entrance door was left open during inspection without screens or other measures to prevent entry of flies and other pests. Lack of proper temperature control in prep chill. This violation was corrected on site by moving the potentially hazardous food to another unit with a suitable temperature.
Thai Me Up Kula 2, operated by Maui Mobile Food Court LLC, located at 28 Kiopah Place, Makawao, must take the following steps prior to reopening.
• Professional pest control treatment to eradicate pests
• Invoices for pest services provided to district inspectors.
Thorough cleaning to eliminate all potential pest food sources
• Screening at doorways to reduce pest infestation when doors are left open
A follow-up examination is scheduled for December 28.
