McDonald’s, Beyond Meat introduce the Double McPlant

McDonald’s will expand its plant-based sandwich offerings in the UK and Ireland next week, the fast-food chain announced Thursday.

In a press release, the fast food chain announced the addition of Double McPlant, a burger featuring plant-based Beyond Meat patties, to menus at all locations in the UK and Ireland. You will be able to order new vegan-certified items starting Wednesday, April 4th.

McDonald’s said it was “prepared separately from other McDonald’s burgers and sandwiches using specialized cooking utensils.” A meal costs £6.49.

The Double McPlant is served with toppings similar to other burger options on McDonald’s menu, but with some vegan modifications. The company said it would include mustard, ketchup, onions, pickles, lettuce and tomatoes, plus vegan sesame seeds, vegan cheese “tastes like McDonald’s iconic cheese slices” and “the ultimate vegan sandwich sauce.” .

That rollout comes about a year after the fast-food chain made the McPlant Burger, which features a single Beyond Meat patty, widely available in the UK and Ireland. I was testing that item there last year.

Other markets have also tested McPlant in the past, as previously reported by FOX Business.
